To encourage the generation of clean electricity, the Ontario government started the MicroFIT program and now has shifted to the Net Metering program. This program is for Ontario homeowners, so they can produce clean electricity from the rooftops of their homes. In typical settings a large power plant feeds electricity to the homes and businesses as illustrated here. In 2009, Ontario government launched the microFIT program to encouraged homeowners install solar panels on their homes. Under the program Ontario homeowners are entitled to one microFIT contract which allows them to sell electricity back to grid at premium rates once they have installed at solar system at their roof. This contract is valid for 20 years and the size of the system cannot exceed 10 kw β that is 40 panels in total if each panel is 250 watt. We know going solar can be complicated.
