An evaporative cooler (also known as a swamp cooler) is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative Coolers can cool air using much less energy than typical air conditioning systems, which use refrigerant gas. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly by blowing air through a water soaked filter, the transition of liquid water to water vapor (evaporation) creates cool air. In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for better comfort.
