Nextpower has completed its acquisition of U.S.-headquartered battery energy storage provider Prevalon Energy, formally expanding the solar technology company into grid-scale storage and firm-power applications.
Key facts
- Prevalon brings a track record of more than 6 GWh of battery energy storage systems deployed worldwide.
- Its portfolio includes BESS hardware, the insightOS energy-management platform, power controls and long-term lifecycle services.
- Nextpower said the combined platform will serve grid-connected storage, hybrid power plants, industrial infrastructure and AI data centers.
- Prevalon had 1.3 GW of firm supply contracts supporting AI and hyperscaler data-center infrastructure when the acquisition agreement was announced.
- The original agreement valued total consideration at up to $365 million, excluding cash acquired.
- Prevalon will continue under the leadership of Tom Cornell, who led the company before the transaction closed.
Why it matters
The transaction is a strategic shift for a business best known for utility-scale solar tracking and related power-plant technology. Adding storage allows Nextpower to offer more of the equipment and software needed to turn variable solar generation into dispatchable power.
That combination is increasingly important for utilities and data-center developers. Large new loads need high availability and fast power response, while solar-heavy grids need storage for ramping, stabilization and energy shifting. A vendor that can coordinate structural systems, electrical infrastructure, storage and controls may reduce integration work across project design, procurement and operations.
For the wider solar supply chain, the acquisition is another sign that major equipment companies are moving beyond individual components. Competition is shifting toward integrated platforms that can support a project from generation through power conversion, storage, control and long-term service.
