Unirac Acquires Terrasmart Racking Business From Gibraltar Industries

Mounting systems manufacturer Unirac has acquired Terrasmart's ground mount, tracker and canopy racking business from Gibraltar Industries, expanding beyond residential and commercial flat-roof mounting into the C&I and distributed-generation segments.

US mounting systems manufacturer Unirac has acquired the Terrasmart racking business from Gibraltar Industries, PV Tech reports. Deal terms were not disclosed.

Key facts

  • Seller: Gibraltar Industries (Terrasmart's parent company)
  • What's included: Terrasmart's ground mount, tracker and canopy solutions, focused on the commercial & industrial (C&I) and distributed generation (DG) segments, with an established US DG market presence
  • What Unirac gains: expansion beyond its existing residential and commercial flat-roof mounting business into ground mount and canopy products, plus added engineering, supply chain and product-development capacity
  • Unirac CEO Peter Lorenz: "This acquisition is a natural extension of our DG platform...we can accelerate innovation, improve delivery, and give our customers a more complete solution set"
  • Advisors: Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP led for Unirac (with Koley Jessen); Perella Weinberg Partners LP and Polsinelli PC advised Gibraltar Industries
  • Context: in February 2026, Gibraltar Industries sold Terrasmart's electrical balance-of-system business to GameChange Energy Technologies — this deal completes a broader breakup of the Terrasmart unit

Why it matters

Racking and mounting is consolidating as ground-mount and C&I/DG solar keeps outgrowing rooftop residential. A flat-roof-and-residential specialist buying its way into ground mount and canopy products is a direct bet that project developers increasingly want one racking vendor across site types, rather than sourcing separately per segment. For installers and EPCs, fewer independent racking suppliers can mean simpler vendor relationships but also less price competition over time — worth tracking as the mounting-hardware supply chain keeps consolidating around a smaller number of full-line players.
